What is Studio Intent all about? 

Buy with Intent. Dress with Intent. Live with Intent. 

Studio Intent exclusively showcases independent Canadian designed fashion and art. The name of the space highlights that we offer unique items that have been designed by Canadian artists. Our customers put thought into the pieces they select and buy, and the way they chose to dress and present themselves. They are seeking something different and intentionally choosing to buy independent Canadian designs.  

Chantal Barchard launched Studio Intent at Art Central in March 2011 in the space that had been formerly held by Shisomiso Boutique & Gallery. Irene and Vicky of Shisomiso are very excited about this transition that will allow them to move on to new opportunities knowing that this ship will be in good hands and will go on sailing without them. 

 

Why Independent and Canadian designed fashion & art?

The studio showcases designs and art made by largely independent Canadian artists that cannot be found at large stores. Independent designers put a lot of work and heart into what they create! Some of the lines are not only designed, but also manufactured by the designers themselves 

When you buy from an independent designer or artist, you are adding quality, personality, and community to your life. It is meaningful and lasting.

 

Is Studio Intent a working studio? 

Staff in the studio will use the workspace to explore their own creative passions.

Chantal will be sewing on days that she is in the store and you will see guest artists periodically in the space creating jewelry and other handmade clothing and accessories.
